The Newcastle Post Office has been at the heart of the city’s story since 1828, when the first post office was established. The current building, a stunning example of Federation architecture designed by Walter Liberty Vernon, was completed in 1903 and stands as a testament to Newcastle’s prosperity during the late 19th century coal boom.

Now under the ownership of Dr. Jerry Schwartz, this iconic landmark is set for a $3.5 million transformation. Plans include a convention and wedding centre, retail shops, and an Aboriginal cultural centre, blending its rich heritage with a vibrant future.

Rediscover Newcastle’s history as we bring new life to this treasured icon.
